The Venice access fee in 2027

Venice will charge day visitors on 72 days next year, twelve more than in 2026. Here is the calendar, the price, who pays and how it touches a walk to the Rialto Bridge.

On 15 October 2026 the Venice city government approved the 2027 calendar for the contributo di accesso, the day-tripper fee. It now runs from Good Friday, 26 March 2027, to the Sunday of Ferragosto, 15 August. That is 72 fee days against 60 this year, and for the first time the fee reaches into August.

Right now nothing is due: the 2026 season ended on 26 July. If you are planning a spring or summer visit, read on before you book the train.

The quick answer

In 2027 day visitors to the old city of Venice pay on 72 days between 26 March and 15 August, from 8:30 to 16:30. The fee stays at EUR 5 if you pay well ahead and EUR 10 near the day. Overnight guests, under-14s and Veneto residents do not pay. Crossing the Rialto Bridge is still free; the fee is a city entry charge, and no tour on this site pays it for you.

When do you have to pay the Venice access fee in 2027?

On 72 days from 26 March to 15 August 2027: Easter, two long holiday stretches, and nearly every Friday to Sunday until mid-August.

The Comune di Venezia press release lists every date. Two blocks run without a break: 23 April to 2 May (Liberation Day and Labour Day) and 28 May to 6 June (Republic Day). The rest are weekends, Friday to Sunday, plus Easter Monday. ANSA reported the same calendar the day it was approved.

The window is 8:30 to 16:30, which the Comune describes as half an hour longer than in 2026. Arrive after 16:30 and you owe nothing, even on a fee day.

How much is the Venice day-tripper fee in 2027?

EUR 5 if you pay early, EUR 10 if you pay late. The city kept the EUR 10 cap for 2027.

The two-step price came in during 2025 and stayed through 2026: EUR 5 when you pay at least four days before your visit, EUR 10 after that, according to Sky TG24. For 2027 the Comune confirmed only the ceiling: "L'importo massimo rimane fissato in 10 euro", as La Voce di Venezia quoted it. Exemption details and booking rules, ANSA says, will follow in the coming weeks.

You pay on the official portal, cda.veneziaunica.it, and get a QR code. In 2026 you could also pay through WhatsApp or at tobacconists in the LIS network. Getting caught without one cost EUR 25 to 150 in 2026, plus the fee itself.

Our advice is boring and effective: the moment your train is booked, pay the EUR 5. A family of four saves EUR 20, enough for a round of cicchetti near the market.

Who is exempt from the access fee?

Overnight guests in the city, children under 14, Veneto residents and a few other groups. Some must register for a free exemption, others do nothing.

The 2026 rules on the Venezia Unica portal split exemptions in two. Residents of the Comune and of the Veneto region, children under 14, people with disabilities and a companion, and students at Venice schools and universities are exempt without doing anything. Hotel and apartment guests in the municipality, workers, relatives of residents and people taking part in sports events are exempt too, but they must request a free voucher with a QR code.

Staying a night is the cleanest way out. You pay the tourist tax at your hotel instead, and you register online for the free exemption before arrival. The fee also covers only the old city. Day trips to Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido are fee-free, and so is changing trains or buses at the station and Piazzale Roma.

How did the 2026 access fee go?

More than 650,000 day visitors paid on 60 days between 3 April and 26 July 2026, worth over EUR 5 million to the city.

Those are the figures reported by blue News when the 2027 dates came out. The first long weekend alone, Easter 2026, brought about 45,000 payments in four days (Sky TG24). Il Post counted about 268,000 EUR 10 tickets against 245,000 at EUR 5 over the first 42 days, which means more people paid late than early.

Did it cut the crowds? Not visibly. The fee grew from 29 days in 2024 to 54 in 2025, 60 in 2026 and now 72. The city calls it an experiment and wants more of it. Michele Zuin, the councillor for the budget, put it plainly: "Confermiamo il Contributo di accesso nella convinzione che questa sperimentazione sia la strada giusta".

Will the Venice entry fee go up to EUR 30?

Not in 2027. A higher fee was discussed, but the approved calendar keeps the EUR 10 cap, and going above it needs a change in national law.

Simone Venturini, elected mayor in spring 2026, said during his campaign that the fee should rise to between EUR 30 and 50 on certain days, as Il Post reported. The city worked on a EUR 30 option for the busiest days. It did not make it into the 2027 decision, and blue News notes that Rome would have to approve any change to the price structure.

Expect the debate to come back. For next spring and summer, though, the numbers are settled: EUR 5 or EUR 10.

What does the access fee mean for a Rialto visit or a tour?

The bridge and the market stay free. On fee days you need the QR code to enter the old city, and tours do not include it.

There is no ticket for the Rialto Bridge and there never was. The access fee is charged for entering the historic centre on a fee day, wherever you go once inside. A day visitor walking from the station to the bridge on a Saturday in May pays it. The same visitor on a Wednesday does not.

None of the Viator tours on this site pays it for you. The Real Hidden Venice walk lists "local taxes" among its inclusions, but the access fee is personal, tied to your own QR code, so book the code separately. The street food tour and the Rialto Market lunch meet by the bridge, inside the fee zone. Two simple tricks: book a weekday, or pick an evening plan that starts after 16:30, such as the cicchetti and wine walk. Every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before, so you can book now and adjust when the 2027 exemption rules are out. Our Rialto Bridge visitor guide covers the best hours to cross.

Frequently asked questions

When does the Venice access fee start in 2027?

On Good Friday, 26 March 2027. It runs on 72 days until Sunday 15 August 2027, from 8:30 to 16:30.

Do I pay the access fee if I stay overnight in Venice?

No. Guests of hotels and rentals in the municipality pay the tourist tax instead, but they must register online for a free exemption QR code.

Do I need to pay the access fee to cross the Rialto Bridge?

The bridge itself is always free. On fee days a day visitor pays to enter the old city, and the bridge is inside that zone, so the fee applies to the visit, not the bridge.

Is the access fee included in Venice tours?

No. The fee is personal and tied to your own QR code. Tours, gondola rides and food walks do not pay it for you, so book it separately on the official portal.
